Google Responds To Privacy Concerns With Unsettlingly Specific Apology

The Onion has a great piece on Google and privacy.

Added Schmidt, "Whether you're Michael Paulson who lives at 3425 Longview Terrace and makes $86,400 a year, or Jessica Goldblatt from Lynnwood, WA, who already has well-established trust issues, we at Google would just like to say how very, truly sorry we are."

Pole dancing as an Olympic sport? Count me in.

Article:  Pole dancing could be recognized as a sport and headed to the Olympics, NY Daily News

A group of pole-dance advocates is hoping for a "test" event in 2012 and a more formal pitch four years after that, in Rio de Janeiro, according to The Associated Press.

Really, is this so far fetched?  Ice Dancing?  Synchronized Swimming?  Pole Dancing?  It seems made of the same cloth.

I'm Mad As Hell!!

How brilliant is this speech?  From the movie Network - done over 30 years ago (1976):

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's work, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad.

You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell,

'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:

"I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Bear Attacks Airplane (the ultimate duct tape repair)

I got these series of pictures from someone I know who makes his living fishing for salmon in Alaska. As he says in his note:

> The attachments take you to some photos of everyday Alaska life. I have many times flown in planes patched up with duct tape - no big deal, happens all the time Ordinary. Perhaps not to this extent..... Enjoy.

And she's good to go. Who knew that duct tape could do this?

Here is the story:

Apparently a bear attacked his plane while parked in a remote field up here in AK.

He had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the bear smelled it.

He had 2 new tires, 3 cases of Duct Tape and several rolls of cellophane delivered.

Then went about repairing the plane so he could fly it home.

Gutsy to say the least.  In Alaska duct tape rules!

Sonny Fox, A Wonderama Guy

Here is a nice compilation of my Uncle Sonny, who hosted a series of children's shows in the early 60s in NY.  In his words:

Here is a link to an interesting collection of various parts of my professional life I was just informed of. Someone went to great pains to produce this.

To this day, when I am with him in NY,  people recognize him and come up to him with fond remembrances of those shows.
